Gym software glossary
Plain-language definitions of the terms behind gym and studio management software.
- What is gym management software?
- Gym management software is a platform that runs the day-to-day of a gym or fitness studio: memberships and billing, a class timetable with online booking, check-in, a member database, payments, and usually marketing. IconoHub adds a built-in website builder, so the gym's public site and its back office are one product.
- What is a class booking system?
- A class booking system lets members reserve a spot in a class online, enforces a capacity limit, runs a waitlist when the class is full, and tracks attendance. It replaces paper sign-up sheets and phone bookings.
- What is SEPA direct debit?
- SEPA direct debit is the standard way to collect recurring euro payments across the European Union. The member authorises the gym once, and monthly membership fees are then pulled automatically from their bank account. It is cheaper than cards for recurring billing.
- What is Stripe Connect?
- Stripe Connect is the payment setup where money from members settles directly into the gym's own bank account, while the software handles the checkout. The platform is never the merchant of record, so the gym keeps full ownership of its revenue.
- What is a membership freeze?
- A membership freeze (or hold) pauses a member's billing and access for a set period, for holidays, injury or travel, then resumes automatically. It is a key retention tool that avoids unnecessary cancellations.
- What is a drop-in or class pack?
- A drop-in is a single paid visit or class without an ongoing membership. A class pack is a bundle of visits (for example 10 classes) bought up front and used over time. Both suit members who do not want a monthly commitment.
